Bluebells
Carpet of blue bells
So embraced
Awash, amidst
Sacred, safe
So entwined
In azure blue
Sea of bluebells
Fragrant blooms
Intoxicating moment
Sheltering sway
Blissful beauty
Woodland grace
Cerulean eyes
So delicately bound
Stem sacred souls
On the velvet shroud
Poem by: DeAnn Shelby
for
Lucas and Emmaline
Early on in my writing of "The Willow Pattern" I knew blue would be a significant theme that I wanted to have throughout my story, so after researching several websites related to England, the beautiful blue bell flower seemed to be a perfect addition to add to my story elements. The site that you are taken to when you double-click on the bluebells above was one of my favorites while I researched this delightful flower.
I realized early on as a I wrote about Emmaline, that I needed to do more research on the role of servants in the Victorian Era in order to feel as though I could even remotely know how an ordinary day might be for them. The site that you are taken to when you double-click on the picture of the church surrounded by the bluebells, takes you to one of many sites that I utilized, along with reading, movies, and many, many wonderful BBC programs to help me understand the different roles of the servant's in Emmaline's time period.

Two birds flying high,
A Chinese vessel, sailing by.
A bridge with three men, sometimes four,
A willow tree, hanging o'er.
A Chinese temple, there it stands,
Built upon the river sands.
An apple tree, with apples on,
A crooked fence to end my song.
